Austria postcode radius search: key facts for dispatchers

What dispatchers should know about the Austria postcode radius search: Postcodes, transit routes and tolls in Austria at a glance.

      Format

Austrian postcodes have four digits. The first digit roughly stands for the federal state: 1 Vienna, 2 and 3 Lower Austria, 4 Upper Austria, 5 Salzburg, 6 Tyrol and Vorarlberg, 7 Burgenland, 8 Styria, 9 Carinthia and East Tyrol. In Vienna, the second and third digits show the district: 1120 is the 12th district. More on the structure: Postal codes in Austria on Wikipedia.

      Transit & tolls

Austria sits on major routes, for example over the Brenner Pass to Italy and via Vienna to Hungary and Slovakia. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes pay the distance-based GO toll from ASFINAG on motorways and expressways, charged via the GO-Box. Current rates and rules: GO toll by ASFINAG.

      Workflow

In the valleys two places are often close together, but the road takes a long way round. With “Calculate road distance” you see the real road kilometres for the first 10 results. The compass only shows places in your direction of travel, for example east of Salzburg.

3D load planning & loading metre calculation in real time

Plan your transport end to end: with our new 3D loading metre calculator, dispatchers and forwarders work out freight capacity, pallet spaces and payload in an interactive 3D simulation. Standard semi-trailer, mega trailer, jumbo drawbar combination, van or shipping container: you see straight away how many pallets fit on the truck and how much floor space is left.

Austria postcode radius search: frequently asked questions

How does the Austrian postcode system work?
Austrian postcodes always have four digits. The first digit roughly stands for the federal state, the others for region, routing and post office. Vienna is the exception: 1010 to 1230 correspond to its 23 districts.
Why is the road distance often much longer than the straight line?
In the mountains, valleys are often connected only by a few passes and tunnels, so the road can be twice as long as the straight line. Routes use a standard road profile; truck bans and weight limits are not taken into account.
Can I search Germany and Austria in one tool?
Yes. On the homepage you switch between DE and AT with one click. A single search always runs within one country. The search history is shared with the homepage.
      What does “Top 10” show?
With “Top 10” and “Top 20”, PLZ Profi shows only the nearest place per postal region, meaning per first two digits of the postcode. That gives you a wide spread across the region instead of ten places in the same area.
Where is my search history stored?
Only locally in your browser, not on our server. “Clear history” only removes the entries for Austria here.
