Germany postcode radius search: key facts for dispatchers

What dispatchers should know about the Germany postcode radius search: Postcodes, postal regions and truck tolls in Germany at a glance.

      Format

German postcodes have had five digits since 1993. The first digit is the postal zone and the first two digits form the postal region. In the east, many postcodes start with 0, for example 01067 Dresden or 04109 Leipzig. PLZ Profi treats postcodes as text, so the leading zero is kept in the list, the copy and the export. More on the structure: Postal codes in Germany on Wikipedia.

      Transport

Freight concentrates in conurbations such as Rhine-Ruhr, Rhine-Main, Hamburg, Munich and Berlin. Radius and compass let you narrow these areas down precisely. Trucks with a maximum permissible weight over 3.5 tonnes pay a toll on motorways and federal roads, collected by Toll Collect. Current rates and rules: Toll Collect.

      Workflow

The straight-line distance is fine for a first shortlist, but quotes are based on the road. With “Calculate road distance” PLZ Profi works out road kilometres for the first 10 results, and you estimate the drive time using the average speed. One click on a postcode copies it, and the export gives you CSV, Excel, PDF or text.

3D load planning & loading metre calculation in real time

Plan your transport end to end: with our new 3D loading metre calculator, dispatchers and forwarders work out freight capacity, pallet spaces and payload in an interactive 3D simulation. Standard semi-trailer, mega trailer, jumbo drawbar combination, van or shipping container: you see straight away how many pallets fit on the truck and how much floor space is left.

Especially handy on a busy dispatch day: with Paste load list you bring in freight details as text or as a screenshot with Ctrl + V, straight from your clipboard. Text recognition runs locally in your browser; your image is never uploaded to a server.

      Postcode search across Europe

Germany postcode radius search: frequently asked questions

Are postcodes with a leading zero handled correctly?
Yes. Postcodes are processed as text, not as numbers. 01067 Dresden stays 01067, on the clipboard, in the CSV export and in Excel.
      What is the postal region?
The postal region is the first two digits of the postcode. Many freight exchanges and transport management systems filter areas by it. With “Top 10”, PLZ Profi therefore shows only one place per postal region, so you can see at a glance which regions you could also post a load in.
How accurate are road kilometres and drive times?
Routes are calculated by our own routing server based on OpenStreetMap, using a standard road profile. Truck restrictions, through-traffic bans and tolls are not taken into account. The drive time is an estimate from distance and the average speed you set, without breaks or driving time rules.
Where is my search history stored?
Only locally in your browser, not on our server. The Germany page shares its history with the homepage. “Clear history” only removes the entries for Germany here.
Why do the markers disappear when I choose “All”?
With a 100 km radius you can easily get several hundred results. To keep the map readable and fast, “All” only shows the starting point on the map. The list and the export still contain every result.
