Belgium postcode radius search: key facts for dispatchers

What dispatchers should know about the Belgium postcode radius search: Postcodes, ports and tolls in Belgium at a glance.

      Format

Belgian postcodes have four digits, and the first digit usually stands for a province. Examples: 1000 Brussels, 2000 Antwerp, 4000 Liège, 9000 Ghent. Brussels and parts of Brabant share the 1, Flemish Brabant and Limburg the 3, Hainaut and Luxembourg the 6. More on the structure: Postal codes in Belgium on Wikipedia.

      Transport

Belgium is a hub for sea freight: Antwerp-Bruges, which has included Zeebrugge since 2022, is one of Europe’s largest ports, together with North Sea Port including Ghent. Trucks over 3.5 tonnes pay a distance-based toll on motorways and other roads, coordinated by Viapass for all three regions. Current rates and rules: Viapass.

      Workflow

Many places have French and Dutch names, often both in the data, for example “Bruxelles – Brussel”. The search finds both versions as well as common English and German names such as Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges or Louvain.

3D load planning & loading metre calculation in real time

Plan your transport end to end: with our new 3D loading metre calculator, dispatchers and forwarders work out freight capacity, pallet spaces and payload in an interactive 3D simulation. Standard semi-trailer, mega trailer, jumbo drawbar combination, van or shipping container: you see straight away how many pallets fit on the truck and how much floor space is left.

Especially handy on a busy dispatch day: with Paste load list you bring in freight details as text or as a screenshot with Ctrl + V, straight from your clipboard. Text recognition runs locally in your browser; your image is never uploaded to a server.

Belgium postcode radius search: frequently asked questions

Does the search find English and German place names?
Yes. Besides the French and Dutch names, the search understands common English and German names such as Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Louvain, Lüttich (Liège) and Mecheln (Mechelen).
What does the copy button copy?
Clicking a postcode copies only the four digits, for example 2000, without the place name or spaces. That way you can paste it straight into a freight exchange or transport management system.
What does “Top 10” mean in Belgium?
With “Top 10” and “Top 20”, PLZ Profi shows only the nearest place per postal region, meaning per first two digits of the postcode. That spreads the results across the region instead of clustering them in one city.
Are road kilometres and drive times available for Belgium?
Not at the moment. For Belgium, PLZ Profi shows the straight-line distance from the starting point. Road kilometres and estimated drive times are currently available for Germany and Austria.
Why do the markers disappear when I choose “All”?
With a 100 km radius you can easily get several hundred results. To keep the map readable and fast, “All” only shows the starting point on the map. The list and the export still contain every result.
