Hungary postcode radius search: key facts for dispatchers

What dispatchers should know about the Hungary postcode radius search: Postcodes, main routes and tolls in Hungary at a glance.

      Format

Hungarian postcodes have four digits and have been in use since 1973. The first digit stands for the postal region, for example 1 for Budapest, 4 for Debrecen and 9 for Győr. In Budapest, the second and third digits show the district: 1051 is in District V. More on the structure: Postal codes in Hungary on Wikipedia.

      Transport

Most motorways radiate out from Budapest. The M1 links Budapest via Győr with the Austrian border towards Vienna, and the M0 rings the capital. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes pay a distance-based toll on motorways and many main roads via the HU-GO system. Current rates and rules: HU-GO.

      Workflow

In the data, Budapest is split into districts, for example “Budapest V. kerület”. For a particular district, enter the postcode or use “Pick place”. With the compass you only show places in one direction, for example west of Budapest.

Hungary postcode radius search: frequently asked questions

Do I have to type Hungarian special characters?
No. The search matches special characters such as ő or ű automatically, so “Gyor” finds Győr. The results show the correct Hungarian spelling.
Does the search understand German place names?
Yes, common German names are translated, for example Ödenburg (Sopron), Raab (Győr), Fünfkirchen (Pécs), Steinamanger (Szombathely) and Stuhlweißenburg (Székesfehérvár).
What does “kerület” mean in the results?
“Kerület” is the Hungarian word for a Budapest district. The Roman numeral in front gives the district number, so “V. kerület” is District 5.
Are road kilometres and drive times available for Hungary?
Not at the moment. For Hungary, PLZ Profi shows the straight-line distance from the starting point. Road kilometres and estimated drive times are currently available for Germany and Austria.
What does the copy button copy?
Clicking a postcode copies only the four digits, for example 1051, without the place name or spaces. That way you can paste it straight into a freight exchange or transport management system.
